The Process of Getting There
The process started from the feeling hopelessness/helplessness. My intention was to work on this theme as it has been surfacing recently. Within upcoming days painting transformed from humans stuck on the ground, reaching out for help, struggling with where they are at, into a girl held gently in the palms of Mother Earth, relaxed and serene. Just by looking at where the painting took me, I feel held and nurtured. |
Throughout the process I kept the mind aside, allowing scenes to arise as they will. The question that comes to me is "who is doing the holding?" What is this source of nourishment? Is the painting reflecting the aspect of me showing up for myself, as the modern thought might suggest? Or is there something more, perhaps forces outside of me reaching out to support me? Or am I (a human) something more than meets the eye?
In the vast pool of subconscious mind we tap into our own hidden longings as well as the collective wisdom and the realms beyond our conscious awareness, along with all that dwells there, hidden from our grasp. But do these realms also reach out to us? I believe they do, only we recognize them just to the extent that we are ready to receive and comprehend with our limited capacity. Diving into the subconscious mind is a way to expand that capacity. Painting is one way to do it.
Back to the painting - it's the nicest thing on Earth to be held without having to be anything more than what I am, even if I am at my worst in this moment, feeling helpless, hopeless or loveless. It is not just about me, any of us may feel that at any moment of their lives. And each time it happens it is really the whole universe showing up as this aspect of humanity - child who just wants to be held. In which case my highest task in this moment is to own that state of being and embody it. If not in my life - then at least on canvas.
Perhaps there can be no other than Mother Earth that could really hold us with unconditional acceptance in all that we are. But then again, we can hold a child with unconditional acceptance, or a kitten, we can tend to our garden and love nature with unconditional acceptance - why not another human? And why not ourselves?
Our own self is the whole universe showing up as this molecular arrangement. By holding ourselves in loving embrace, we are ultimately nurturing the universe. And by holding another, we expand - it is the great unknown in me meeting the great unknown in you, which means synergy.
And the Earth - she will always be there for us. Her Spirit is the ultimate example of what unconditional acceptance is. And if She stands with us, how much stronger we are in ourselves? If we are held by Earth, then we truly belong. Just as we are. Into this universe. We are It.
Thank you, canvas, paints and brushes, for showing me all that :)
Be held, extend the love and expand!
Ethel.
