It's been a while now that I've been longing for more freedom of expression in my creative process. I felt too attached to form and shape. I desired to be able to transform the forms from defined shape into an abstract space. I searched for the key in abstract art techniques. So I took a few classes. First with Bruce Sherratt experimenting just with lines and colors, allowing the colors to have their own life in interaction with water and glue, learning to convey meaning without painting it out in form, witnessing how the master creates his own impressive artworks. It opened up completely new landscapes for me that I am excited to keep exploring on my own now.
Then I met the Dutch artist Emile Snellen van Vollenhoven. That day really rewired my perception of painting - I saw that the process of a painting coming to life was something that happened out of it's own will with me being just a tool or a channel of allowing it to come forth. And the act of painting with fingers which I never dared to rely on before, took me deep into the state of being completely consumed by the process.
The painting was finished in just a couple of hours or less, while my usual works tend to take few days up to a month to reach a state of considerable completion. And I loved the result! I loved the happiness of the moment that it mirrored and keeps mirroring every time I glance upon it. I made it be the background of my smartphone, so I can draw on this energy each time I switch on my phone. I just love how easy it was to get to the point of being happy with the result! Maybe it's a one time thing - but at least I know it is possible.
The process itself was very similar to my own - become present, go within, project what you see upon the canvas and follow your intuition from there. Only I see first shapes and objects as I go within, while the abstract master guided me to just play with the colors. The fox and the flowers appeared by themselves. So I emphasized them a little and named the painting after them - The Fox and the Flowers - in gratitude for them showing up in such way.
How great it is to learn something new!
Thank you, to my teachers! I feel I made a significant step further into my artistic explorations!
